Dear Jud:

Tomorrow we enter the last weekend of our Inventory Liquidation Sale. We could not be more pleased. Since we did a Lynch high impact sale in January of 2008, we were concerned about running one two years later. What would be the result? Could we possibly meet our expectations for sales? I’m pleased to share that we will end this event at a very respectable figure. Although the economy is much tougher than during our first event in 2008, we will end this one at between 85 and 100% of those same numbers. (We still have one weekend to go!)

Doug Dowell has been most instrumental in our success in both events. As a sale director, he does some amazing work prepping the store displays and getting the staff ready for the Big Sale. We have successfully cleared off the vast majority of floor samples we needed to move. In addition, our overall sales ratio has been over 50% special order throughout the event. Our normal special order figures hover around 75-80%, so were very satisfied with the mix. Doug has a gift for keeping the staff focused on SELLING and he and his team of sales pros did a great job of getting our sales staff to concentrate on closing the deal. I used this opportunity to frequently point out to the staff some of the tried and true techniques the Lynch Sales team uses to keep the customer engaged and keep the process moving to get the sale now.

One concern we had, and I’m sure it was a major concern during the first event in 2008 as well, was how long term customers and the community at large might see the sale. Doug was most willing to work with us on ad verbiage and layout (often adding elements we would not have caught) so that our message got out without scaring our customers. In fact, it was interesting how many came in and commented they had bought at the last sale and were glad we were having another so they could add to their furnishings.

In closing, I wish to thank the Lynch team for once again putting together a very successful sale event for Nowell’s. And a special thanks to Doug and his team for demonstrating for all of us what selling is really all about.
