Losing a Legacy

The Lynch family sadly announces the passing of Daniel L. Lynch, Sr. Chairman Emeritus of the Lynch Sales Company.

Daniel L. Lynch, Sr., of Grand Rapids, MI, died on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Born March 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph Patrick Lynch and Ellen Johanna Lynch. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five-years Mary Lee Lynch (née Moshier) and his sister Mary Ann Keeler. He was the Father of Daniel L. Lynch, Jr. (Ann) of Boston, MA; Judson M. Lynch (Lynn) of Spring Lake, MI; and Christopher L. Lynch (Barbara) of Chattanooga, TN.

Known for his great sense of humor and friendly demeanor, Daniel was secondgeneration owner, with his brother Philip, of the Lynch Sales Company, which was established in 1914 by their father Joseph. Prior to his death, Daniel was Chairman Emeritus of the 100-year-old company which is now owned by the third generation.

He was a lifetime member of the BPOE (Elks), a member and a recipient of the Paul Philips Award of the Rotary Club of Grand Rapids, and a member of the Rotary Club in Key Biscayne, FL. He was a longtime member of the Peninsular Club and the University Club of Grand Rapids. Dan was an avid golfer and a former member of Centennial Country Club. He was an early member of the West Michigan Jazz Society and a strong supporter of the Grand Rapids Symphony, where he forged a close friendship with Guest Pops Conductor Richard Heyman. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and St. Agnes Catholic Church of Key Biscayne, FL.

He is also survived by five grandchildren: Charles, Megan, Allison, Catherine, and Stephanie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 4. 2014, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2750 Burton Street, S.E. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church from 10 to 11am. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Grand Rapids Symphony or the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
